Introduction

Web marketing has exploded since 2000. More than a decade has passed since that time and many people have become rich off of Internet marketing. But most people fail to become rich. Just like any other industry Internet market has its challenges, its successes, and its failures.

One of the dirty little secrets of Internet marketing is that Web marketers can do almost anything without consumers' knowledge. There are no web marketing ethics boards or regulations. Virtually anthing goes. All that stands between you, the vulnerable consumer, and unscrupulous marketers is the competitive edge that some marketers gain by outing others.

"Outing" is the practice of calling public attention (and shame if possible) to the activities of a person or group. Internet marketers are afraid of being outed because they don't know if they can recover their business after losing customers. Not all marketes do shady things. In fact most Internet marketers would insist they behave ethically. But since there is no general agreement on what is ethical it's impossible for us as consumers to know if we are being treated fairly or if a marketer is taking advantage of us.

Only the guy behind the website knows for sure if the product you ordered is worth buying, if the private information you just gave him will be used appropriately or to steal your identity. Only the guy behind the site can tell you if his intentions are good or bad; but even the guy behind the site cannot tell you if he is competent. Many people who have no business dealing with Internet marketing get into the business anyway.

Here on these pages you will find some of the secrets of online marketing revealed without all the window dressing. I'm not trying to hide anything from you. But neither is the whole web a corrupt marketplace. These articles talk about some of the worst practices in Internet marketing; that doesn't mean all Internet marketers (or even most) are trying to rip you off. In fact, I believe most Internet marketers want to create a good customer experience for you because they hope you will recommend their websites to your friends.
